What started as a simple carpet-removal project became a major floor transformation. After removing carpet glue and addressing an uneven former butcher-shop floor, Decorative Concrete of Virginia installed a self-leveling overlay and a custom three-color metallic epoxy finish.
Preparing an Uneven Floor
Once the carpet and adhesive were removed, the crew found areas of concrete that had been patched and sections that sloped toward old drains. To create a level base, they shot-blasted the surface, applied an epoxy moisture-vapor barrier, broadcast sand for profile, and poured a self-leveling concrete overlay.
After the overlay cured, cracks and holes were patched before the metallic epoxy system began.
Installing the Metallic Epoxy
A gray-pigmented vapor barrier created the base layer for the decorative coating. The team then poured three metallic epoxy colors in the direction they wanted the veins to appear, carefully moving the slow-setting epoxy across the floor without overblending the design.
A clear urethane topcoat completed the system, protecting the epoxy and providing a durable wear surface.
