We Don’t Use Epoxy top Coats for Garages…and here’s why
We used to install epoxy garage floors with a high-solids epoxy primer and a broadcast of vinyl chips, but over time we saw the limits of epoxy in a garage setting. While epoxy bonds well to concrete, it cures slowly, can yellow under UV light, and often requires multiple coats to get the performance homeowners expect. Traditional systems meant extra steps — epoxy primer, clear epoxy, then a urethane topcoat — just to make sure the floor would hold up. Even then, epoxy floors could still fade, or show wear sooner than customers wanted.
That’s why we now use polyaspartic coatings instead of epoxy. Polyaspartic provides the same strong bond to the concrete, but with faster cure times, UV stability, and better resistance to hot tire pickup, chemicals, and everyday wear. It eliminates the weaknesses of epoxy while giving you a floor that’s more durable, lower maintenance, and designed to look great for years to come. By switching to polyaspartic, we’re able to give our customers a better garage floor from the start — without the compromises that come with epoxy.

Who We Are
OUR STORY
In 2001, a family vacation changed everything. While away, our dad—then a successful home builder—spotted a crew installing a decorative concrete overlay. Intrigued, he walked over, asked questions, and even jotted down the name from the bag of materials they were using. A few weeks later, we were on a plane to Florida for hands-on training.
What began as a side project soon became a passion. Our eye for quality and craftsmanship, paired with our growing expertise, transformed decorative concrete of virginia from a part time hustle into our full-time calling.
In 2010, our good friend Landon—who had been running his own landscaping business—partnered with us. Together, we expanded into polished concrete and commercial coatings, adding even more ways to bring beauty and durability to floors across Virginia.
Today, Decorative Concrete of Virginia is still family-owned and built on the same principles that started it all: hard work, quality craftsmanship, and treating every project like it’s for our own home.
It started with a spark of curiosity… and grew into a legacy of concrete artistry.
